Tibetan Singing Bowls

We have been incorporating  7-metal Tibetan Singing Bowls into our therapeutic work.  Singing bowls produce a unique sound that can be heard and processed and also a physical vibration that can be sensed and felt. The vibrations lead to a relaxation response in the body.  In the words of our clients: "So peaceful",  "Very spiritual",  "Ahhhh- I am so relaxed", "So calming".

In 2012, our Community Service Healing Music program sent two musicians to eight different adult daycare sites in Milwaukee County to give a total of twenty-four interactive music sessions.   Clients, staff and community members participated with singing, playing percussion, movement and dance in a very positive energetic environment.  The sessions include a stress-relieving, meditative, relaxing component achieved with Tibetan Singing Bowls.

We observe the ages, conditions and environment and choose appropriate songs.

We create a space for small group, visit bedside patients, or visit your home. KT is also currently taking the Tibetan Singing Bowls to Hospice and home.

"Our clients are so energized after the sessions and love the inter-activeness and contributing music in  shaking the shakers, beating the drums and even dancing.  Catholic Charities.

*****SOME PERSONAL NOTES*****

My friend, Saskia Nassalang and I started a monthly music group at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in 2011. This transforming, vitalizing project is now called  Healing Music and we take it right to the bedside of the kids.  We are thankful and humbled every time we go to the hospital to share our music. Healing Music is a mission and we take it to people with disabilities, rehab patients, frail elders, hospice and others who can't easily get out to be with live music.   We play positive, tropical-vibed songs and end our sessions with the subtle, peace-inducing sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls.  This project is about friendship, sharing music and cherishing others -- whoever they may be, in the moments that we spend together. We have played for babies in comas, 90 year olds, people living with dementia and rehabbing from head injuries, people with serious chronic conditions who attend Adult Day Care, kids quarantined with infectious disease, and the list goes on and on. We create a warm circle of deep respect that includes our clients, as well as staff if they choose to participate, and then we  just open our hearts and give what we love-- inspiring music.   We are dedicated to this project.   kt  6/2012

A very special aspect concerns the Tibetan Singing Bowls.  We are investigating the effects of 7-metal Singing Bowls.  Singing bowls produce a unique sound that can be heard and processed and also a physical vibration that can be sensed and felt. From our experiences, there is a definite relaxation response in the body.  Or in the words of our clients: "So peaceful"  "Very spiritual."  "Ahhhh- I am so relaxed".   Here is a little more information:

"According to singing bowl researcher Joseph Feinstein, singing bowls were traditionally used in Asia and the tradition of making sound with bronze bowls could go back 3,000 or more years to the Bronze Age.

Singing bowls are used worldwide for meditation, music, relaxation, personal well-being. They are used by a wide range of professionals, including health professionals, school teachers, musicians and spiritual teachers. Singing bowls are used in health care by psychotherapists, massage therapists, cancer specialists, stress and meditation specialists. They are used to help treat cancer patients and also for post traumatic stress disorder.

Antique singing bowls produce harmonic  overtones creating an effect that is unique to the instrument. The subtle yet complex multiple harmonic frequencies are a special quality caused by variations in the shape of the hand made singing bowls. The art of making singing bowls in the traditional way is often called a lost art, but traditional craftsmen still make singing bowls in the traditional manner. They are one of the longest made traditional objects still being made today."  From Wikipedia and more sources coming soon.

"I loved the musicians from last Sunday's service!   The bowl/bells they were playing during communion really enhanced the atmosphere - it was a really beautiful experience."  Participant at Christ Church

" I feel the Bowls in my heart.  Thank you." Participant at Lutheran Home

"She relaxed her face for the first time this week. Thank you for coming here."  Social Worked speaking of client at Goodwill Site

A Note to a Supporter on Facebook

"Thanks for your support. We need to keep making a case for our work. I wish you and more people could witness what happens.   Friday we took people to a whole different space.-- out of confusion and depression and into a place of smiles, happiness, participation and more. We have photos from Friday that really demonstrate the process. But being there LIVE is a unique, vibrant experience! We know, without a doubt, that in these moments together with the music that we give, that wonderful, intangible, deep goodness is working deep in the cells and souls of all the participants."
